The Sugartown Story
Our Small, Diversified, Family Farm and Nursery
We have been building our farm and nursery over the last several years and have now taken it to the next level. At Sugartown, we are demonstrating the importance and validity of nursery production as part of a small-scale diversified family farm. We are also demonstrating the effectiveness and importance of using Low Input Sustainable Agriculture practices (LISA). This allows us the opportunity of providing farm tours, workshops, and field days to demonstrate our practices to the community and region. Although our county has a tremendous nursery industry, it is mostly large-scale and commercial/conventional operations. What we are doing and demonstrating is something entirely different…a different product, produced a different way, for a different customer. We are just adding to the diversity of nursery and farm operations in our area, and providing examples of many different ways that our friends, neighbors, and customers can become more productive, self-sufficient, and healthy.

Sustainable Farmer and Essential Release & Align Coach
I love doing what so many people only dream of. I was born in Savannah Georgia and raised as a traveler. I lived in Asheville and Hendersonville before my family and I bought our land and began building our latest farm and nursery business in Collettsville. Everything that needs to be done to build a farm, I’ve done…fencing, irrigation, landscaping, tending the crops, and raising and caring for all the livestock including the horses, cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, rabbits, and Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs. You might say I say I love animals! I also love growing a huge variety of heirloom plants. At Sugartown, we only grow open-pollinated varieties, from our famous tomatoes to a wide diversity of veggies, flowers, herbs, and fruit. I believe that if we take the best lessons from the past, add the best info from today’s successful farmers, and add some common sense, we should find success in raising the finest quality livestock and crops.
Lily Laramie
The Business Lady
Hi! I'm Lily Laramie, Julie's daughter. I was born in Asheville, NC, and raised all over the state. We finally settled down here in Collettsville right before I went off to college at UNC Asheville. I graduated with my Bachelors in Arts, Management, and Entrepreneurship and came back home to complete my MBA at Lenoir-Rhyne University. I have worked in and around entrepreneurship all my life, guess it rubbed off on me because now I am working with mom and Sugartown as the business lady! I created this website, our social media, and any and all marketing materials you've seen. I also work in all other aspects of the business helping with plants, workshops, and animals.
